Nice analysis of the wrist movement, especially in the coda melody from A flat to G and F sharp and back to G with kind of echoing sound of the chord played with the right hand in the upper octave with a third note played by the first finger simultaneously as playing the melody note two octaves up with the fifth finger and going down again before the thumb gives the next note of the melody and the echoing passage is repeated. This is as I understand the only passage in the whole wonderful ballade that recites the very first chord of the intro with the Neapolitan cord a flat major. This is one of the most thrilling passages of all piano music.

Gould reminds me a lot of Bobby Fischer. Both World Champions of their craft, both reclusive and shunning the public eye as well as both distaining the arbitrary nature of redundancy in just repeating patterns or non-creative thinking. although this of course can be argued. As one's own personality and logic dictates their choices within the patterns of chess or music to follow...Gould has his staccato, pronounced, and very articulated technique to try and expose the music for what it was instead of embellishing it and bobby invented Fischer Random to break away from all the theory, uncreative and non-thought provoking wood pushing right from the opening!

Glenn Gould's live rendition on video of Beethoven's Bagatelle in E-flat major (Op 126 #3) is something out of this world. ruclips.net/video/uRj5UtuxfPs/видео.html Then there is his recording (and singing) the F minor prelude BWV 857. ruclips.net/video/1eNjWL-UBaE/видео.html In both he plays them much slower than everyone else, and we are so privileged to get to hear them played that way.

Had a teacher throw me into Bach 3pt fugue before I could play a 2pt invention. He said it would make the invention easier to play after learning the fugue. It didn't happen that way. That was 35 years ago. But I will continue to struggle with Bach to help with Chopin. The similarities are so cool when you played them.

Sonata quasi una fantasia. First mvt is slow sonata form with a slow development.Finale is fast sonata form with development. Development is mostly in last mvt , not first. Read AB Marx on what he called Sonata form. Beethoven was before him. The moonlight business was much later from a poet. Beethoven didn’t call it that. He would have been upset because that title confuses listeners.

Some good answers. However an acoustic is not portable. It has only ONE sound. It will need professional tuning at some point. And upright can have terrible room acoustics and have unwanted sounds and harmonics bouncing all over. The digital piano is more controllable in that regard. Better digital pianos can have a very realistic touch. HOWEVER an acoustic piano looks like and IS a real piano and there is nothing more elegant than a Grand piano (the digital grans just look fake-- because they are).
